Word Error Message

I was wondering whether any other JAWS users have experienced a global template error message when exiting a Word document? The error message indicates that the file is already in use. I first experienced the problem after loading JAWS 12, but I was able to eliminate the scourge by renaming the normal file. JAWS 13 has renewed the problem, but renaming the normal file hasn’t yet worked. I have to reboot the computer each time the error message appears. The error message may appear after accessing 3 documents, or 10 documents-the bugger is very unpredictable. Often times, I don’t see it for a couple of days. If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

ug, sorry i can't be more helpful as I've also had this problem. It doesn't happen all the time though which is strange. Someone told me once that that particular message meant that Word was corrupted but that doesn't seem logical.
I too will look forward to responses from those who know much more about this stuff than I.

I guess it's common for the error message to rear its ugly head every once in awhile, but I have to deal with the problem every day-sometimes several times a day. I've been told that the error message is due to a corrupt normal template file, and that the solution is to rename the file. I have also read that the problem can be in the registry. There are registry tools designed to fix registry errors, but I'm not certain which tool to trust. Any advice in that regard would also be appreciated.

yeah, all of that sounds about right. Man, I wouldn't touch my registry for all the tea in China. Like an idiot, I went to one of those doublemyspeed.com websites, ran their scan, and was of course told I had problems which could be fixed for only $389. I'd definitely find someone you can trust to work on that.
Good luck.

Ahha, I wondered why the Internet was cluttered with free registry tools-just a gambit to make money. You're right, I would never touch any of them.

easiest way to fix this is to run a repair on the office suite. What version of office are you using. I haven't seen this one since 2003 and 2007. You can also delete the normal file if you want to cut it to the desktop in case you just happen to need to put it back, but this typically works well.

I would definitely agree with the repair. Also, CCleaner is an excellent tool for cleaning registry and temp files and is quite safe to use. it's a staple around here.
